Directed by Dmitry Krymov

Production: Moscow Theatre "School of Modern Plays"

Inspired by a 1975 American touring production of Thornton Wilder’s “Our Town” he visited as a young man, Dmitry Krymov’s “Everyone is Here” is a memory piece, a starting point for a flight of imagination and immersion into his own past. Wilder’s “Our Town” is superimposed on the personal memories of Krymov, his biography and events from his family life. The structure of the play gives rise to an interweaving of events, memories, reminiscences, fantasies, associations, dreams - a carefully planned, as if random confusion, which in the finale leads the viewer to a keen awareness of their own life. Nominated for five 2022 Golden Mask Awards, including Best Play and Best Director. Featuring Alexander Feklistov and a memorable Maria Smolnikova.

Presented in Russian with English subtitles

Running time: 1h 45min

Declared by the New York Times as “one of the world’s finest theatre-makers”, Dmitry Krymov embarked on his career as a set designer, participating in productions by his renowned father, director Anatoly Efros. In 2002, at age 48, he embarked on a new career as a director, and since then his productions have won countless awards and glowing critical reviews. As both writer and director, he has staged his works in the US, the UK, Brazil, Australia, New Zealand, Finland and Estonia among many other countries. Due to the current circumstances in Ukraine, Krymov recently left Russia and will work internationally, with an eye towards establishing a new studio in New York.

One time I asked my students to read Thornton Wilder’s play “Our Town”. They didn’t see the play, which produced such a strong impression on us in its time. An American theatre brought it to Moscow. It was the work of the director Alan Schneider from the Arena Theatre. The Americans performed in the new MAT building on Tverskaya Boulevard. It’s bulky and somewhat ridiculous, and it’s difficult to radiate a warm artistic impression from the stage.

But the Americans did it. I don’t remember what they said about this play in the press, but here was the chance to talk about the fact that certain of our settled opinions were erroneous...
